Q. 3, 4 and 5 week ending 27/9'13
Q.3 Trad
A and B generally answered very well, although quite a few didn't recognise the sound of the ACCORDIAN. Also, read the question properly, i.e. the "singer's performance".
In C the "role" of the whistle at the start was to play the main melody with ornamentation.
When the flute joined in the whistle played a counter melody (polyphonic) with repeated ornamented motives.

Q. 6, 7 and 8 week ending 19/9'13
Q. 6 Theory
1. There is no such thing as a minor note. Notes are just notes. They are not major or minor. Chords (Triads) which are 3 notes together however, are major or minor.
2. Chords 2,3 and 6 are minor. Chords 1, 4 and 5 are MAJOR. Call a major chord by its full name. e.g. C major. Cm will do for C minor.
3. Please learn the Bass notes!!!!

Q.7 (melody)
1. Phrasing needs to be added in this question. This is just a curved line over all 4 bars or 2 curved lines over 2 bars each depending on whether it's a 4 bar phrase or a 2 bar phrase.
2. If you are writing 2 x 2 bar phrases, don't end the 1st phrase on doh, end it on soh. End the complete melody on doh.

Q.8 (Chords or triads)
1. You MUST use rough work for this question. A tiny mistake in can be very costly here. Make sure to name the chords properly in the rough work.
2. Chords iii and vii are not allowed. Don't use them.
3. Look for a cadence at the halfway point, usually ? - V. Another "unfinished" cadence is V-vi. The end normally uses V(7)-I but occasionally IV-I is the "finished" cadence.
