Pitch - Leap (Doh-Soh)
A leap is when a note is skipped. e.g. doh-soh. This is the most important leap. It's the one that is used most often in melody writing and we will now use it in dictation. To recognise the leap Doh-Soh, think of "Twinkle Twinkle" (doh doh soh soh).
Activity
Praactice singing Doh-Soh with the hand signs. Hear twinkle twinkle in your head.
Homework.
Listen to each track and write down the pitches you hear. They move by step but will also include the leap doh-soh.

Melody Writing
A melody is a combination of rhythm and pitch. Unless both are present it's not a melody. N.B. Every note of rhythm must have 1 note of pitch. Write in d for doh, r for re etc. under each rhythm.
Each melody is 4 bars long.
End on a long note.
End on Doh.
For now, move by step.

Example
The following 5 audio excerpts are 1 bar melodies, i.e. they have pitch and rhythm. Listen to them. Then write down the rhythm first. Then add 1 pitch for each note of rhythm.
